VA hiring over 2,000 employees across the country to process claims - See where and how to apply

As the volume of veteran benefit claims continues to increase, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is planning to hire over 2,000 employees across the country to process claims in the coming years.

The VA says it currently has more than 13,000 employees who processed a record-high 3.1 million compensation and pension claims in fiscal year 2026, processing them with the highest accuracy rate in three years - 93.88% - with only 3.2% of claims decisions appealed to the Board of Veterans’ Appeals.

As the VA continues its campaign to reach millions of un-enrolled veterans and ensure it can keep processing claims efficiently, the department is encouraging veterans and others to apply for a career as a VA claims processor.

The VA says selected candidates will interpret and apply applicable laws, regulations and policies for processing disability claims.

What they're saying:

"VA is putting Veterans first by making major improvements in claims processing volume, speed and accuracy. These new hires will help continue this landmark progress," said VA Secretary Doug Collins.

Military service members transitioning to the civilian sector are encouraged to apply

The VA says through its Warrior Training Advancement Course (WARTAC), it is working to identify members of the U.S. Armed Forces who may be interested in joining VA when they transition out of military service.

WARTAC gives all transitioning service members the opportunity to complete a national-level training program while still on active duty.  Completing the training can lead to employment opportunities at one of VA’s 56 Regional Benefits Offices.
