NHTSA says nearly 43,000 people died in traffic deaths in 2021, a record 10.5% year-over-year increase

New NHTSA data showed a nationwide spike in traffic deaths in 2021, with the highest number of fatalities in 16 years and the largest year-over-year increase since the agency began collecting data in 1975.
