French government finds new uses for wine as demand drops

Demand for wine has fallen so much in France, the French government is spending $215 million to distill perfectly good, but excess wine into ethanol, an alcohol frequently used in cleaning products, hand sanitizers and perfumes. That raises the question about how well the U.S. wine industry is doing, 90% of which is in California, Oregon and Washington.
