Local author, illustrator join together to revitalize the Spanish language among generations
New research reveals that more than 45% of immigrant children who entered the United States before turning 13 could sustain their fluency in the original language. However, that proficiency rate significantly drops to less than 10% among the third generation. As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Dr. Michael Genhart and John Parra, the co-creators of the new children's book, 'Spanish is the Language of My Family,' are actively making efforts to rejuvenate the Spanish language and culture among generations.
