Lung Cancer Awareness Month: detection rates rising in young women
November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month and we are spotlighting a recent troubling trend when it comes to women. Younger women, like Bay Area resident Ashley Vassallo, are experiencing higher rates of new lung cancer cases than young men. Over the past 43 years, lung cancer diagnoses in women rose 84% while dropping 36% in men. KTVU's Heather Holmes speaks with Dr. Jeffrey Velotta, Kaiser Permanente Thoracic Surgeon and his patient Ashley, who was diagnosed at 34, about her treatment experience and recovery journey.
