New study details the benefits of popular weight loss drug
A new analysis of the longest clinical trial for the weight-loss medication Wegovy reveals that the drug not only aids in weight loss but also offers significant heart protection beyond its weight-loss effects. The study indicates that Wegovy reduced the risk of heart attack, stroke or heart-related death by 20%. Participants experienced an average weight loss of more than 10%, typically continuing to lose weight for about a year before reaching a plateau. We spoke with Dr. Nisha Patel, an obesity and metabolic specialist at Sutter Health, about the medication's safety.
