Blackouts avoided, but triple digits scorch inland areas

Antioch was one of the areas in the East Bay to reach triple digits on Thursday amid a statewide flex alert due to the West Coast heatwave. The state's grid operator said blackouts were avoided in part because people conserved but temperatures cooled in the evening. Another flex alert is set for Friday.
