California judge denies death penalty challenge

California's pause on executing inmates will stay in place. A southern California attorney was suing Gov. Newsom after he paused all executions shortly after taking office in 2019. A decision by a Sacramento Superior Court judge said that because the man is not personally affected by Newsom's execution moratorium he can not challenge. California has 699 condemned inmates and has not executed anyone since 2006.
