ALS advocate turns diagnosis into scholarship for local students
Osiel Mendoza was diagnosed with ALS at 21 and told he had only years to live, but nearly a decade later he is still fighting. He has turned that fight into the Osiel Mendoza Strength in Character Scholarship, which has awarded more than $40,000 to students in Martinez. The annual 'Cornhole for a Cause' fundraiser returns to Martinez May 2 to raise more money for graduating seniors who demonstrate resilience and determination.
