California shelters prepare for annual Adopt-A-Pet Day

Animal shelters across California are gearing up for the third annual Adopt-A-Pet Day, with more than 200 locations offering fee-waived adoptions in hopes of finding homes for an estimated 5,000 animals. The event comes as shelters continue to face overcrowding and resource strain statewide. The San Francisco SPCA is among participating organizations, with adoption director Robert Lightner highlighting growing demand and the importance of expanding placement opportunities for animals in need.
