ANTIOCH, Calif. - A woman was fatally injured in a hit-and-run in Antioch on Saturday morning, and authorities are searching for the driver who fled the scene.
What we know:
Antioch Police Department units were called just after 10:30 a.m. to Hillcrest Avenue near Highway 4 on reports of a woman down in the street not responding, according to a department statement.
An officer responded to the scene and found the 33-year-old woman critically injured at the scene. Witnesses reported that the woman was in a crosswalk when she was struck by a car that was exiting the highway and that fled the scene after the collision.
The woman was taken to a hospital, where she later died of her injuries. Her name was not released pending notification of her next of kin.
What's next:
The vehicle involved in the hit-and-run was found unoccupied about two miles away from the scene of the crash, but the driver was not found.
An investigation into the fatal hit-and-run is ongoing.
