The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office on Friday said they are trying to figure out how a 31-year-old woman was found dead in a detached garage following an early morning house fire in Redwood City.
Firefighters and deputies were called out at 4:45 a.m. to a fire at a home in the 600 block of Hurlingame Avenue in North Fair Oaks.
Crews were able to get the fire under control in about 15 minutes, according to a news release from the sheriff. The fire was mostly contained to the garage, which is where they found the dead woman.
It's not exactly clear how she died, authorities said.
Two other people were able to get out safely and did not suffer any injuries, the sheriff said.
Deputies then evacuated nearby homes to ensure the safety of those in the surrounding area and secured the scene to preserve evidence, the sheriff said.
Sheriff’s detectives, Crime Scene Investigators with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office Forensic Laboratory
and investigators with the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office were sent to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
