CA offers grants to strengthen homes against quakes

Registration opens Wednesday for the 2016 Earthquake Brace + Bolt Program.

According to California Earthquake Authority, the crawl space in some homes built before 1979 can be particularly vulnerable to earthquakes.

The program was developed to help homeowners lesson the potential for damage to their house during a quake.

It offers up $3,000 in grants to eligible homeowners to strengthen their homes against earthquakes.

The program is open to residents living in 18 cities, and takes place from Jan. 20 through Feb. 20.

The program is funded in part by $3 million in the California State Budget.
