Cat dies, 3 rescued from San Francisco Sunset fire

Cat dies, 3 rescued from San Francisco Sunset fire.

One cat died and three people were rescued – including a person who jumped from a third-floor window – in a two-alarm fire in San Francisco early Wednesday morning, the fire department said.

The fire was reported at about 6 a.m. affecting three homes in the 1300 block of 47th Avenue near Judah in the Sunset, officials said.

Two cats were also affected by the fire; one of them died, and the other is in critical condition, the fire department said.

Capt. Jonathan Baxter said there were a total of four injuries and three people were taken to the hospital.

It's unclear what caused the fire.

Flora Curtis lives across the street and was one of the first to call 911 for help.

"I was terrified because I have two small children," she said. "We could feel the heat on our windows and I was worried that something was going to blow up."

She said that this fire is inspiring her to get her emergency go-bag ready.

"That's the first thing that's going on my list," she said.
