Charges won't be filed against UCSF surgeon

San Francisco's District Attorney announced on Monday they wouldn't file charges against a 49-year-old UCSF surgeon who was accused of illegally prescribing opiods to his girlfriend.

Dr. Christopher Owens, a vascular surgeon, and associate professor of surgery at the UCSF-affiliated VA Medical Center was arrested last week.

The D.A.'s office said there was insufficient evidence to charge Owen at this time.

Dr. Owens was released from jail late Monday afternoon.
