Garcia expected to be named new chief of San Jose Police

San Jose's Interim Police Chief will likely be given the top job, officials told KTVU Wednesday.

Eddie Garcia took over the department in January after Chief Larry Esquivel retired and became the chief in Tracy. Officials tell KTVU the city manager will recommend Garcia for the chief of police position next week.

The issue is expected to be brought before the city council on Tuesday during the closed personnel session. Garcia could be named chief as soon as Tuesday afternoon.

San Jose never launched an official search for a new chief, and instead the city manager wanted to see how Garcia performed as interim.
