Illegal fireworks suspected cause in San Jose fire

Fire investigators believe a fire that started late Thursday night may have been started by kids who were playing with illegal fireworks.

The blaze broke out just before 11 p.m. near Luke Court and McCreery Avenue.

Neighbors told KTVU they witnessed children throwing fireworks and one of them exploded and burst into flames.

One resident said when he smelled the smoke he grabbed a water hose to try to fight the fire.

"I was worried the fire was going to get to our house too, so I grabbed the house and climbed up the ladder on top of the roof and then tried to spray our house with water," he said.

At least four trees burned and two parked cars were damaged.
