Large earthquake rocks Southern Peru

LIMA, Peru (AP) -- The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting that an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.0 rocked southern Peru early Friday morning.

The temblor's epicenter was 16 miles north-northeast of Azangaro and it had a depth of about 160 miles.

The area is about 500 miles southeast of the Peruvian capital of Lima.

The earthquake struck at 3:50 a.m. local time.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
