Shooting at Great Mall

One person was shot at the Great Mall in Milpitas, leading to a lockdown that led shoppers and workers to shelter in stores for hours.

Shoppers and employees at the Great Mall in Milpitas had to shelter in place for hours while police investigated a shooting.

Police have said one person was shot near the Old Navy store. The extent of that person’s injuries is unknown.

With just six days till Christmas, the mall turned into a crime scene after 5 p.m.

For more than four hours, police inspected store by store, searching for a shooter and escorting the retail workers and holiday shoppers to safety in the parking lot. Police said that the scene was "all clear" around 9:30 pm.

There also were "two unrelated medical emergencies during evacuations, which required transportation to a local hospital," the Milpitas police tweeted.

Multiple shoppers took to social media to describe a chaotic scene as people ran through the mall.
