EMERYVILLE, Calif. - A tanker train crashed into a car that was stopped on the tracks in Emeryville early on Saturday morning, causing a small fire and damage to the rails.
The Alameda County Fire Department told KTVU firefighters were called about 1:10 a.m. to the tracks intersecting Shellmound Street, near 67th Street, on reports of the crash.
Firefighters found the car burning on the tracks and quickly doused the flames.
The Emeryville Police Department told KTVU that a woman accidentally turned her car onto the train tracks, where the vehicle became stuck. She stepped out of her car before it was struck by the oncoming train.
No injuries were reported in the crash, though the fire department said the crash and fire caused damage to the tracks. The road in the area was also shut down for several hours to allow crews to remove the wrecked car from the scene.
Police said DUI was not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
