Two dead following East Oakland shooting

Two people are dead following a shooting in the Oakland Hills late Saturday morning.

Two people are dead following a shooting in the Oakland Hills late Saturday morning.

What we know:

A 911 call came in around 11:20am, reporting a gunshot victim on Skyline Boulevard near Skyline Circle, not far from Keller Avenue.

"We saw several cars pull up in front of us and park. And as soon as I saw that, I knew there was something wrong," said neighbor Ruby Hertz.

Oakland Police arrived at the scene to find a man and a woman, both of whom had suffered gunshot wounds and were unconscious. They were found in the area of a vehicle that was just off the road. Medics tried to revive them, but both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the shooting was centered around the car, and did not involve any homes in the area. Officers would not say who the shooter was, but did say the situation has been contained, and there is no active threat to the public.

Police say the names of those involved are being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

Road closed for several hours

Police taped off a section of Skyline Boulevard for several hours, as well as the area around the car, as homicide investigators combed the scene.

"I was just trying to leave, and then I saw that the road was blocked down there," neighbor David Conti said.

Juan Fino was trying to make a delivery, but was forced to turn around.

"We're living in Milpitas," Fino said. "I'm a father. I have a 12-year-old son and I would never come and live in this area right here."

Neighbors concerned about crime

Neighbors say Skyline Boulevard has seen its share of crime, like robberies and break-ins, but nothing like this.

What they're saying:

"It's an unhappy situation, you know,?" Hertz said. "When you have to feel that you can't necessarily trust the people around you."

Hertz, who's lived in her home for 52 years, says she's glad to have a locking gate, and her German shepherd.

"I wouldn't live here without them at this point," Hertz said. "It's just really unfortunate, but it's the world we live in."

What you can do:

Oakland Police say the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call homicide detectives at (510) 238-3821 or the tip line at (510) 238-7950. Anyone with photos or videos that might be helpful in the investigation is asked to send them to cidvideos@oaklandca.gov.
