Woman's stabbed-burned body found in Oakland park ID'd; police seek 2 persons of interest

OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - OAKLAND (KTVU) -- Police were searching for two persons of interest after a woman's burned body was found in Oakland's Arroyo Viejo Park Thursday, authorities said. 

At a 3:30 p.m. news conference, Alameda County Sheriff's and Oakland Police Department said they had identified the 21-year-old victim Karla Ramirez Segoviano and that she had multiple stab wounds in addition to being burned.  

She was identified by the Alameda County Coroner's Office through her fingerprints at around 2 p.m. Police said it was difficult to ID the victim because she was so badly burned. 

The news conference revealed that the incident that led to the victim's death was a personal matter and that the two adult persons of interest in the case are said to be one male and one female. They also have a suspect car in this case. Police said they were confident that the persons of interest would be arrested today. 

The victim's friendship was said to be closer linked to the female person of interest. 

Police said the 21-year-old victim was last seen giving her cousin a ride and family members became concerned for her well being. She was reported missing the night the homicide occurred. Police reached out to the victim's family Thursday night. 

Charging in the case will take place on Monday, according to police. 

J.D. Nelson from the Alameda County Sheriff's office said the victim, Karla, had been an Alameda County Sheriff's Explorer for years and that youth, usually recruited through local high schools can volunteer in the program until they are 21-years-old. 

Nelson said he did not personally know the victim, but he had met her before and that these are usually, "good kids".

On Thursday homicide investigators were called to Arroyo Viejo Park at 77th and Krause Avenues shortly before noon on a report about a body being found in a wooded section of the park, an Oakland police spokesman said. Police at the time said they were investigating the incident as a homicide. 

"We are asking the community to come forward if there's anybody that witnessed this or possibly has any type of surveillance video that may have captured any type of activity that was suspicious in this area to come forward and assist us," said Officer Marco Marquez.
