MAN ACCUSED OF STEALING LICENSE PLATES FROM MAIL: Federal prosecutors have charged a man with stealing 88 license plates that had been sent by U.S. mail.

Efren Mariano Fontanilla stole the license plates on Aug. 2, according to documents filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco.

Federal prosecutors charged him with obstruction of mails, a misdemeanor.

Fontanilla was named in a court filing known as an information, which in federal court typically signals that a defendant intends to plead guilty.
