Fremont, San Leandro police probe shootings
(KTVU) - Here's the Rap Sheet for Jan. 19, 2016:
WOMAN SHOT IN FREMONT: A woman was shot and seriously wounded today inside a Fremont home, police said.
The victim, whose name wasn't released, was shot at a home on the 4400 block of Inyo Court in the city's Sundale neighborhood about 9 a.m.
The woman was taken to a hospital with a "potentially life-threatening injury," police said.
Police were searching for a man but released no further information about his relationship to the victim and any motive in the case.
Brier Elementary School and Glankler Early Learning Center were both put on temporary lockdown for about 40 minutes as a precaution.
SAN LEANDRO SHOOTING SUSPECT CAUGHT: A man who shot at two men -- but missed -- was caught while trying to hide in a creek not far from San Leandro police headquarters, authorities said.
The incident began when callers reported a shooting on the 100 block of Haas Avenue -- less than a block from the police station -- at 12:25 p.m., said San Leandro police Lt. Robert McManus.
Police determined that the suspect had shot at two men in a car, hitting the vehicle but missing the intended targets, McManus said.
Witnesses said the shooter ran toward nearby San Leandro Creek, and officers spotted him hiding behind some homes near the creek.
They watched as he "began to alter his appearance by removing some of the layers of his clothing," McManus said.
Officers ordered him out of the creek area, and he obeyed and was arrested. His name hasn't been released.
Police and an Alameda County sheriff's K-9 were scouring the creek this afternoon for the semiautomatic pistol that the suspect used, McManus said.
PORCH PIRATE SOUGHT: Livermore police are seeking the public's help to identify this woman, who allegedly stole a package.
The woman took a package off a porch on the 1600 block of Altamar Way about 6:30 p.m. Jan. 13.
Anyone who knows who she is, is asked to call Livermore police at (925) 580-4858. Callers can remain anonymous.
WOODSIDE PROWLER: San Mateo County sheriff's deputies are searching for a prowler who surprised a resident early today in his home in the normally tranquil town of Woodside.
The incident happened on the 600 block of Mountain Home Road about 4:15 a.m.
The resident heard noises near the outside of his home, got up to investigate and was confronted by a man who got in through an unlocked outer bedroom door, authorities said.
The intruder shined a "very bright" flashlight in the resident's face and fled out the same door. The homeowner chased after him for several hundred yards but lost him in a wooded area.
Deputies canvassed the neighborhood but couldn't find him.
Anyone with information is asked to call sheriff's detectives at (650) 363-4055 or (650) 363-4064.
