San Francisco street could be named after symphony's Michael Tilson Thomas

Legislation introduced by Mayor London N. Breed on Tuesday, Oct. 24, would rename the block of Grove St. between Franklin St. and Van Ness Ave. in honor of Michael Tilson Thomas, who served as music director of the San Francisco Symphony for 25 years and is now the orchestra’s Music Director Laureate.

San Francisco could soon name a street after the symphony's former director, Michael Tilson Thomas.

The renowned conductor was appointed music director in 1995 and led the symphony for 25 years.

On Tuesday, Mayor London Breed proposed designating  the block of Grove Street between Franklin Street and Van Ness Avenue at Davies Symphony Hall ‘MTT Way.’

Breed called Tilson Thomas a "vital part of the cultural makeup of the city."
