Oakland Zoo offers free admission to families impacted by North Bay fires
Families impacted by the North Bay wildfires - including firefighters who helped battle the flames - are invited to spend a day at the Oakland Zoo.
The Oakland Zoo announced on a Facebook from now until December 31st those impacted by the fires will get free admission.
Oakland Zoo public relations spokesperson Erin Harrison told KTVU some staff members of the zoo were affected by the fires which helped spark the idea.
Staff members at the zoo decided that a way they could help, as well as show their appreciation to firefighters, was to “offer families a place where they could come have a fun day, and escape the everyday challenges associated with the fires,” said Harrison.
Since the Oakland Zoo started the free admission last week, the zoo has had a really good turn out with several groups taking advantage of the offer.
“We wanted to give people the space to come at their leisure, which is why we have a window that goes through the end of the year.”
The zoo says those who wish to visit can bring their ID to identify a home city in the fire region, or firefighters can simply show their ID.
