Photos show bio-luminescent tide at Rodeo Beach
MARIN COUNTY, Calif. (KTVU) - A Bay Area photographer is sharing some spectacular images of a rare bio-luminescent tide in the North Bay.
Tony Rowell took photos at Rodeo Beach in Marin County on Saturday and Sunday.
The photos show a glowing blue color in the water from tiny, single cell organisms, called phytoplankton.
The organisms are always present, but they can't be seen unless conditions are just right.
In an email, Rowell told KTVU he has only seen these blue waves twice in his life.
A similar event occurred in Big Sur earlier this month. See those photos here.
