Police shooting in Vallejo with American Canyon authorities

Police activity from a shooting is unfolding involving American Canyon law enforcement in the city of Vallejo.

An officer-involved shooting occurred in Vallejo stemming from an initial traffic stop.

Officials said American Canyon police tried to initiate a traffic stop over a vehicle code violation in the area of SR-29 southbound when the car refused to yield, leading to a pursuit

The car eventually crashed into a fence at a Vallejo home off of Souza Way and Gateway Drive.

According to officials, "officers encountered one male suspect" and shots were then fired by an American Canyon police officer; reasons for the shooting were not immediately made known.

Both the driver and passengers allegedly ran from the scene while armed with handguns, prosecutors said.

The man shot was only identified as an 18-year-old and is believed to be the passenger. He is expected to survive his injuries.

The driver was found shortly afterward and arrested, prosecutors said. The names of the driver and passenger have not been released.

At least two firearms were recovered at the scene.

Solano and Napa County sheriff's deputies were also on scene.

Solano County Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the incident.
