Truck on fire on Bay Bridge, heavy smoke
A truck fire stopped all traffic on the Bay Bridge.
SAN FRANCISCO - A utility roofing truck on fire stopped all lanes of traffic during Thursday's rush-hour morning commute on the westbound side of the Bay Bridge span and the nightmare continued on through the afternoon.
The California Highway Patrol said officers found the truck fully engulfed in flames about 8:30 am. and multiple explosions were heard as the propane tank on the truck bed started to explode.
The CHP closed all lanes of traffic for a while under firefighters could put out the fire.
However, Caltrans engineers still kept a few lanes closed through the afternoon to inspect for structural damage. The line of cars extended well beyond the toll plaza.
The California Highway Patrol noted the five people inside the truck escaped without injury.
