Massive apartment fire near UC Riverside leaves at least 100 displaced

At least 100 displaced after apartment fire in Riverside

Officials said at least 100 residents were displaced after a fire erupted at an apartment complex in Riverside on Friday.

At least 100 residents were displaced after a fire broke out at an apartment complex near the University of California, Riverside on Friday.

What we know:

The fire was reported at the University Riverside Garden Apartments, located in the 3900 block of Iowa Avenue, between University Avenue and Everton Place. The building is located within a half-mile of UCR and off the 215 Freeway.

SkyFOX flew over the scene and showed heavy smoke and flames from the building. 

Officials confirmed 50 units and an estimated 112 people were impacted. FOX 11's Susan Hirasuna reported at the scene that the Red Cross was assisting displaced residents.

Fire at UC Riverside student apartment complex

Crews were working to knock down a fire that broke out at the University Riverside Garden Apartments on Friday. 

No injuries have been reported. 

Local perspective:

The school's website indicates students are scheduled to have their final exams beginning next week, with commencement ceremonies scheduled from June 5–16. 

What we don't know:

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
