Verizon working to restore service after nationwide outage

Verizon said it was working to restore service to customers Saturday after an outage.

What we know:

According to  Downdetector, the outage started to peak on Saturday afternoon. Outages have been mostly concentrated in the northeast corridor of the U.S. and other parts of the country. 

What they're saying:

"We are aware of a software issue impacting wireless service for some customers," the company said in a statement to FOX Television Stations. "Our engineers are engaged, and we are working quickly to identify and solve the issue."

"We know how much people rely on Verizon and apologize for any inconvenience. We appreciate your patience."

The company later put out an updated statement:

"We are starting to see service restoration in impacted areas. Our engineers have been working diligently on today's service disruption, and continue to work to ensure remaining customers are fully restored as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience as we have worked through this issue."

Verizon is directing customers to its "Check Network Status" page for the latest updates on service availability in their area.
