California fires updates for Friday, Jan. 31

Thousands of residents across Los Angeles County continue picking up the pieces and are starting the rebuilding process after losing their homes in the Eaton and Palisades fires.

The first of rounds of rainfall has begun across the North Bay spreading southwards. Scattered rain lingers into the weekend ahead of a stronger, more impactful system for the beginning of next week.

After a relatively dry start to 2025, significant rain is finally back in the Bay Area forecast. The first system will move in Friday morning. The rain will gradually spread south during the morning hours. The moisture will be streaming into the region Saturday. Rainfall rates will be increasing early Saturday morning. A 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck near York Harbor, Maine, on Monday, approximately 7 miles south of the coastal area, according to the United States Geological Survey.

In the wake of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, donation drives and fundraisers have been continuing to pop up all across the Bay Area.

After bringing less than a 10th of an inch of rain to parts of the Bay Area, the weekend winter storm is moving out leaving behind cool, breezy conditions for Sunday. Afternoon highs will range from the mid to upper 50s. Cold overnight lows can be expected tomorrow morning with a Freeze Watch slated for much of the Bay Area.
