15-year-old reunited with first responders who saved his life

It was a heartwarming reunion on Saturday morning when first responders were reunited with a 15-year-old boy whose life they saved.

Jared Armstrong and his partner Josh King were nearing the end of their paramedic shifts when they got an unusual call about a teenage boy in cardiac arrest.

"It perked me and my partner's ears up because it's not very common to hear a 15-year-old in cardiac arrest," King said.

Ivan Santana was at a soccer field playing soccer with friends when he went into cardiac arrest.

Armstrong described the scene as chaotic but said a friend of Santana's was performing CPR.

Santana technically died twice but was revived and transported to Washington Hospital where doctors continued lifesaving measures.

He has since made a full recovery and wanted to meet the men and women who saved his life.

"I just wanted to show my gratitude and appreciate them," Santana said.

King said it was the first time he had been able to meet a patient he helped save.

"Being able to meet someone who you directly affected their life, is quite amazing," King said.

Santana doesn't remember anything about the day his life changed. But he told KTVU his mindset has forever changed because of it.

"My outlook on life is just live it and don't take anything for granted," Santana said.
