PLEASANTON, Calif. (KTVU) - A 7th grade boy is this year's Bay Area regional spelling bee champion.
San Jose’s Rashik Gandhasri spelled the word "guanabana" correctly at the contest on Sunday in Pleasanton.
Guanabana (gwanna-bahna) as a green-skinned fruit with white meat, which can be used in a drink or eaten. It's also known as Soursop.
Rashik won a free trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in May.
