Alameda County sheriff researches alt-right groups, accidentally retweets white supremacist

The Alameda County sheriff's office apologized on Tuesday for an accidental re-tweet of a white nationalist group.

Sgt. Ray Kelly said he accepted full responsibility for the mistake. He said he was doing some research on alt-right groups in light of the planned anti-Marxist rally in Berkeley on Aug. 27 and got to a Periscope video of white supremacist Richard Spencer. The video was of a #UnitetheRight press conference.

Periscope, Kelly noted, has a different interface than Twitter and he said he accidentally clicked a few buttons leading to the temporary retweet.

The retweet disappeared within 45 minutes.
