The Alameda County Sheriff Department is responding to a report of a suspicious package outside of the Alameda County Courthouse.

The bomb squad was on scene around 11:00 a.m. at 12th and Oak streets in Oakland.

According to the Alameda County Sheriffs' Department, a backpack was left in a precarious spot, which caused concern based on some other incidents.

This is part of a series of suspicious incidents which began with a 4 a.m. with a firebombing at the courthouse at 4 a.m. Then around 10:30 a.m. a suspicious backpack was left with electrical components inside of it. The man got into a struggle with deputies inside the courthouse.

Sgt. Ray Kelley with the Alameda County Sheriff's Department tells KTVU the man entered the courthouse after leaving the backpack outside. Authorities tried to talk to him. "During our encounter with him he assaulted several of our deputies. We had to take him to the ground. He's now detained for assaulting a deputy." Kelly adds the man has some psychiatric issues they are dealing with.

The lockdown at the courthouse should be lifted by about 12:45 p.m.
