Cheers! Clydesdale farm welcomes newest colt

Warm Springs Ranch in Boonville, Missouri is celebrating its 10th anniversary. More than 70 Clydesdales call the 300-acre facility home.

But the buzz around the barn this week was all about the new colt being welcomed into the ‘King of Beers’ family.

“This is where they’re born,” said John Soto, the breeding farm supervisor. “This is the starting place of the Budweiser Clydesdales."

The newest – and still unnamed – baby was born Sunday night, and just 18 hours later was standing about 3½ feet tall and weighing 170 pounds.

"They carry them for 11 months and last night we had a newborn perfect colt; big, strong. And he'll go to Grant's Farm, where he'll spend the next two and a half years bathing and washing legs, the things that'll be done to him for his entire life. So when he's 3, he'll go to Merrimack, New Hampshire, which is our training facility."

Once he reaches 4 years of age, he'll be a rookie Clydesdale.

But to Soto, that’s still a long way off.

"There's just nowhere else you're going to see the newborn babies but Warm Springs Ranch," he added.
