MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KTVU) – A pregnant dog was injured and left for dead in Greenfield.

According to the SPCA for Monterey County, Angel was found alone and was suffering from a horrific leg injury.

The bone in her leg had punctured the skin. She had a severe infection and was in extreme pain when she was taken to the SPCA.

The SPCA says Angel delivered a litter of puppies just two days before she was found. Sadly, two of her four puppies didn’t survive.

Angel suffered for four days before she was taken to the SPCA.

Beth Brookhouser with the SPCA says Angel’s injuries are consistent with being hit by a car.

When Angel arrived at the SPCA she immediately went into surgery. A plate was placed in her broken leg, while Angel’s puppies received intensive care.

Angel along with Pixie and Oliver are now recovering from the ordeal and are receiving plenty of TLC at the SPCA.

Angel will continue to need care and rehabilitation as she heals. The SPCA says the puppies will stay with their mom until they are ready for adoption.

The SPCA is asking for donations to help cover Angel’s care.
