SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KTVU) - Friday was the deadline for people living in an enormous homeless tent encampment in Santa Cruz. The city issued an eviction order for those calling the area home, to pack up and leave. %INLINE%
The so-called "Ross Camp" first opened in November. At one point, an estimated 200 people were reported to be living at the camp located along Highway 1 and River Street. %INLINE%
The city handed out vouchers to move the people from the camp to nearby shelters.
Santa Cruz Sentinel reported Salvation Army workers were at the encampment this week to assist with the cleanup. The newspaper interviewed some residents who said they wouldn't mind help finding a job.
