A lot happened on Thursday in Foster City's council chambers. A badge pinning ceremony was held to honor seven members of the city's police department. And then moments later, a newly pinned officer got down on bended knee for a touching marriage proposal.

"Talk about 'An Officer and a Gentlemen' Ofc. Butler proposing to his soulmate," the Foster City Police Department wrote in a Facebook post. "This will be hard to beat ladies and gentlemen," the post continued.

The post and photo moved many, and the well wishes and congratulations poured in.

"Congratulations on both your pinning ceremony and engagement," wrote Facebook user Karen Litchy Lombardo.

"It was a great moment for all of us. We end up being a family," Foster City Police Capt. Martin Ticas told KTVU. "It was a joyous moment," he added.
