Free pharmacy opens in South Bay

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KTVU) - A one-of-a-kind pharmacy, dispensing free medication, is hosting a grand opening Tuesday in San Jose.

The Better Health Pharmacy is located at 725 East Santa Clara Street, inside a downtown government building, and run by volunteer pharmacists.

The drugs are donated, mostly by nursing homes, and intended for people who cannot afford their prescribed medications.

There are no co-pays or deductibles. All people need is a doctor's prescription.

The pharmacy does not dispense painkillers, like vicodin or oxycontin.

Drugs range from asthma to diabetes medication.
