Madonna

Global pop star Madonna brings her "Rebel Heart" tour to San Jose Monday night, belting out a mix of her iconic hits and new music from her latest album of the same name.

Along with her '80s contemporary Prince, Madonna has proven to be one of the most resilient and successful pop singers of the last 30+ years. Rising to fame after moving to New York City to pursue a career in modern dance in the late '70s, Madonna Louise Ciccone would be signed to Sire Records in 1982 and began what would be a seemingly endless string of dance hits.

Her early singles "Everybody," "Burning Up," "Holiday," "Borderline" and "Lucky Star" established the singer as a rising star on MTV, paving the way to her blockbuster sophomore album Like a Virgin that enjoyed massive sales thanks to the provocative title track and what would become iconic videos for "Material Girl" and "Dress You Up."

The singer would launch a hit-and-miss film career with her support role in Desperately Seeking Susan in 1985, but music remained her main focus through her gradual transformation from dance-pop queen (on hit albums True Blue and Like a Prayer) to cutting-edge electronic dance maven with her '90s albums like the explicit Erotica and the global smash Ray of Light.

With extravagant live tours that frequently create headlines and controversy, Madonna has maintained a reputation for putting on massive stage spectacles with the elaborate stage and costume design of her tours in the past 15 years. With Rebel Heart, her first collection of new music since MDNA in 2012, the singer has earned her best reviews in a decade.
