Pit bull shot and killed after biting Berkeley cop's hand during Oakland search warrant
BERKELEY, Calif. (BCN) - A Berkeley police officer was bitten in the hand by a dog that was then shot and killed by officers executing a search warrant for an identity theft suspect in Oakland Tuesday night.
According to police, officers went to execute the warrant at about 9:25 p.m. in the 1000 block of 28th Street when two pit bulls of the resident, Travis Fugit, 32, confronted them, according to Berkeley police.
One of the dogs bit the hand of an officer, prompting officers to shoot and kill the dog and restrain the other, according to police. The officer was treated for injuries at a hospital and was later released.
Fugit was booked into Berkeley City Jail on suspicion of felony identity theft, police said.
