Police arrest second suspect in fatal stabbing of teenager outside Milpitas high school

Milpitas police on Friday announced they arrested a second teenage suspect in the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Jarred Cavan.

What we know:

The Milpitas Police Department said that, upon investigating the Tuesday afternoon killing, detectives identified a 16-year-old suspect "connected to the incident" and obtained a warrant for their arrest.

They were found in Ontario and taken into custody on Thursday and booked into the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall, but their name was not released due to their age.

The backstory:

Jarred Cavan was fatally stabbed in a brawl near Milpitas High School on Tuesday afternoon. 

Jarred’s 16-year-old girlfriend, who identified herself only as Raya, was also injured in the attack while trying to protect Jarred.

A 17-year-old suspect waited at the scene for police immediately after the stabbing, and was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall on charges of homicide and assault with a deadly weapon.

A motive for the fight was not known.
