Police release photo of suspect car in Oakland double homicide

OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU and wires) -- Police were visiting a West Oakland neighborhood Monday afternoon hoping to track down tips to solve a double homicide there last month.

Investigators have obtained a photo of a car suspected to be involved in the fatal shooting of Marcus Sims, 29, and Donald Ward, 22, in the area of 10th and Willow streets on Jan. 20.

Sims and Ward were both found shot at about 5:30 p.m. that day. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to a hospital but died a short time later.

Investigators now believe a suspect fled the area in a light blue four-door 1994 Mercury Sable. It was spotted fleeing south on Willow Street after the shooting, police said.

Officers planned to visit the neighborhood this afternoon to pass out flyers and ask for tips.

Police are asking anyone who saw the suspect vehicle the day of the shooting or witnessed the shooting to call the Oakland police Homicide Section at (510) 238-3821 or a tip line at (510) 777-8572.

Oakland police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case.
