RV gets wedged in Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza

SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - A recreational vehicle became wedged in a wide lane at the Golden Gate Bridge's toll plaza around noon today, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Two occupants were reported trapped in the motor home, prompting a response from the CHP, Southern Marin Fire Protection District and Golden Gate Bridge workers.

The occupants were trapped only because the door of the RV was ripped off and wedged into the toll booth, CHP officials said.

They suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Golden Gate Bridge crews extracted the RV occupants and repaired the toll plaza in less than an hour, according to the CHP.

The RV driver struck the left side of the No. 2 lane but it had enough clearance to drive through the 10 feet, 6 inch wide lane, bridge district spokeswoman Priya Clemens said.

The RV was towed to a parking area to fix or replace the door.

The crash caused some damage to the delineator at the toll booth and shattered glass on the RV door, Clemens said.

The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District files a claim with a driver's auto insurance if a vehicle damages the toll plaza, Clemens said.
