SF Police: Man stabbed, critically injured in Golden Gate Park
SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU, BCN) - A 35-year-old man was stabbed and critically injured Monday evening during an attacked in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, police said.
The victim was walking in the park with a beer in his hand shortly before 6:30 p.m. when he passed a group of four to six men sitting on Hippie Hill in the eastern end of the park, according to police.
The men began to chase the victim and punched and kicked him for an unknown reason, investigators said.
One of them then stabbed the victim multiple times in the stomach.
The group fled the area, leaving the man lying on the ground with life-threatening injuries, police said.
The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital in critical condition.
No arrests had been made in the case as of Tuesday morning.
Golden Gate Park has been the scene of two recent high-profile homicides.
The body of Stephen Williams, a 66-year-old homeless man, was found face-down in the park's Alvord Lake on May 24.
Two men, 20-year-old Stephen Billingsley and 37-year-old Nikki Williams, both thought to be transients with no longstanding ties to the city, were arrested in connection with Williams' death.
Police said they tortured and beat Williams over a three-day period before his death.
And last October, Audrey Carey, 23, was fatally shot at the western end of Golden Gate Park.
Three people, Sean Angold, a 24-year-old San Francisco resident, Lila Scott Alligood, an 18-year-old San Rafael resident and Morrison Lampley, a 23-year-old San Francisco resident, were arrested in connection with
Carey's death and another homicide in Marin County.
