Some Bay Area schools outside fire zone close due to air quality

Smokey skies outside of fire zone in Bay Area

Some schools in the Bay Area have decided to close due to air quality issues because of the wine country fires.

Benicia Unified School District ended classes early Wednesday. The district decided to close schools on Thursday and Friday. "The safety and health of our students and staff is our primary concern.  We made the decision to have an early release today."

Vallejo City Unified School District also decided to close. "Due to the spread of wildfires and poor air quality, all VCUSD schools and offices will be closed on Thursday, October 12th, Friday, October 13th. Monday, October 16th is a regularly scheduled professional development day for district staff that remains on the calendar.  Students will return to school on Tuesday, October 17th."

We'll update this story as more schools outside the fire zone announce closures.
