Some San Jose officers sleeping in RV's due to overtime

San Jose police say that the staffing shortage in the department is so dire, that mandatory overtime means officers don't even have time to go home in between shifts.

Some officers say they are working so much, that instead of going home between shifts, they are now camping out in RV's across from the police station.

There are about a dozen RV's outside police headquarters.

Many of these officers live in cities, as far away as Modesto and Tracy.

Detectives from units throughout the department are being reassigned to street patrol, to help with the staffing shortage.
