The creators of the long-running animated show "South Park" are renaming the show "South America," aimed at taking a jab at President Donald Trump’s attempt at change the names of several U.S. landmarks.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone have long been known to be in opposition to President Trump and have surely taken note of the escalation of Trump’s trade war with Canada that has led to the signing of an executive order to change the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America. 

What they're saying:

On the show’s official Instagram page, one of their latest posts to coincide with the series premiere next week read, "Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA," the statement read. "We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount — a Skydance Capitulation."

The two show runners have taken liberties through their cartoon to poke fun at President Trump and a host of other noble events and people. Albeit, in all likelihood brief, the name change provides another outlet for relevant topics to depict in the show. 

Timeline:

President Trump has signed orders for multiple name changes to different landmarks in his second term, naming things after America or himself in some cases. Last month, Trump signed the executive order to change the name of Lake Ontario. That was just days before he suggested on social media a change to the name of New Mexico to New America. 

Dig deeper:

Prior to the action of changing the name of Lake Ontario, he also moved to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, change the name of Mount Denali to Mount McKinley and insert his name in the name of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. 

South Park season premiere 

Big picture view:

The popular animated show, created by Parker and Stone, centers around four boys; Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny, and their often taboo adventures around the snowy small Colorado town. It began airing in 1997 and has consistently been one of the highest rated programs on basic cable.

South Park’s 29th season premieres Wednesday, September 16 at 10 p.m. on Comedy Central, available to stream next-day on Paramount+.
